Inflammatory Atherosclerotic Plaque Can Be Reproducibly Assessed By 3T Dynamic Contrast Enhanced MRI for Multi- Center Studies

چکیده
Introduction Inflammation plays an important role in both atherosclerotic plaque progression and rupture [1], which has led to an interest in treatments with anti-inflammatory effects. To assess and monitor inflammation in vivo, dynamic contrast-enhanced (DCE) MRI has been previously demonstrated [2]. Kinetic parameters derived from DCE-MRI, including the transfer constant (K) and partial plasma volume (vp), correspond to permeability and blood supply, which are related to inflammatory processes. Histological investigations have shown that K and vp correlate with macrophage and neovessel content of atherosclerotic plaque when measured in either the plaque [2] or adventitia [3]. However, the inter-scan reproducibility of these kinetic parameters has not been investigated for multi-center studies, which is essential for prospective studies. In this study, we sought to establish the reproducibility of K and vp in atherosclerotic plaque using 3T scanners in a multi-center design.

متن کاملLocalized measurement of atherosclerotic plaque inflammatory burden with dynamic contrast-enhanced MRI.
Inflammation plays an important role in progression and rupture of atherosclerotic plaque. Dynamic contrast-enhanced MRI has been proposed as a tool to evaluate inflammation in vivo by measuring the transfer constant and partial plasma volume, which are influenced by inflammation. This study sought to demonstrate the ability of dynamic contrast-enhanced MRI to provide localized measurements of ...
متن کاملScan-rescan reproducibility of quantitative assessment of inflammatory carotid atherosclerotic plaque using dynamic contrast-enhanced 3T CMR in a multi-center study
BACKGROUND The aim of this study is to investigate the inter-scan reproducibility of kinetic parameters in atherosclerotic plaque using dynamic contrast-enhanced (DCE) cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) in a multi-center setting at 3T. METHODS Carotid arteries of 51 subjects from 15 sites were scanned twice within two weeks on 3T scanners using a previously described DCE-CMR protocol. Im...

متن کاملQuantitative magnetic resonance imaging analysis of neovasculature volume in carotid atherosclerotic plaque.
BACKGROUND Neovasculature within atherosclerotic plaques is believed to be associated with infiltration of inflammatory cells and plaque destabilization. The aim of the present investigation was to determine whether the amount of neovasculature present in advanced carotid plaques can be noninvasively measured by dynamic, contrast-enhanced MRI. METHODS AND RESULTS A total of 20 consecutive pat...
